Nicolas Cage’s “Superman Lives” never got the chance to hit the big screen, but director/producer Jon Schnepp has released a full trailer for documentary, “The Death of ‘Superman Lives’: What Happened?,” in an effort to raise the finishing funds for post-production.
The doc features footage from the original film’s early production, interviews with its director, Tim Burton, original screenwriter Kevin Smith and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, among many others.
Burton was attached to direct the film in 1997 but then dropped off the troubled project in 2000 because he got tired of both waiting and producer Jon Peters.
“I basically wasted a year,” Burton said of the experience. “A year is a long time to be working with somebody that you don’t really want to be working with (Peters).”
Originally budgeted at $190 million, “Superman Lives” reportedly cost Warner Bros. $30 million in development costs.

There’s no sign of Cage, the star of the film, in the documentary, but the trailer shows images of the actor in the Superman suit.
Schnepp is asking fans and contributors for another $85,000 for the finishing phase of the feature film on crowdfunding site fanbacked.com
