As Sex Education finishes forever and the next season of Heartstopper could be years away, a new young, queer coming-of-age story is arriving on screens. Tore – a new Swedish TV drama – is coming for us, and to Netflix. Add the six-episode series to your watchlists now.

Think Euphoria, Call Me By Your Name, Everything Now – TV shows that focus on the reality and fluidity of young people's lives and struggles, from mental health journeys to finding your place in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Here's everything we know about Tore so far.

What is Tore about, exactly?

It's been described as a “feel-good-and-bad” dramedy that touches on all the best things about a coming-of-age story while also delving a little deeper. Tore touches on mental health struggles, family and friendship conflicts and trying to find your own voice within the LGBTQA+ community and in life.

The official plot synopsis reads: “When 27-year-old Tore loses the most important person in his life in a garbage truck accident, he does everything he can to suppress his grief. During the days, he continues to work at his father’s funeral home as if nothing has happened and starts flirting with the new florist Erik. At night, he establishes himself on a party boat in the city and experiences alcohol, sex and drugs for the first time.

"A new and beautiful, but risky, world suddenly opens up to Tore, but his best friend Linn and the colleagues at the funeral home quickly start to worry that Tore is about to lose his footing in his desperate attempts to escape reality.”

These shows that tell the stories of young people making their way through the impossible era of teenhood are crucial – they remind younger generations, as well as those of us who have already been through it, that growing up is hard, as is finding yourself.

Who stars in Tore?

William Spetz – who also wrote and created the show as well, impressively – will play lead character Tore, after starring in 2019 Swedish drama series Quicksand.

Sana Sundqvist, Hannes Fohlin, Karin Bertling, Victor Iván, Doreen Ndagire, Carlos Romero Cru, Per Svensson and Lotta Tejle will also appear.

We'll see Swedish acting royalty Peter Haber – who starred in the original Swedish rendition of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – play the role of Bosse. This will be his Netflix debut.

Is there a trailer for Tore?

Yes, there is. It's certainly an emotional rollercoaster.

When will Tore be available to watch?

It drops on Netflix on Friday 27 October – not long now, get it in your queues.
