Bilt Rewards is a unique program that lets you earn points for paying rent with a credit card without oppressive service charges.

It's a revolutionary thought: Rent is by far the largest monthly expense for many of us. And the rewards you earn can be used to offset rent costs or converted into valuable airline miles and hotel points to help you knock off bucket-list travel that might otherwise be unattainable. The Bilt app has even integrated with award booking service Point.me to help you book travel using as little brainpower as possible.

Bilt Rent Day is an ongoing promotion that occurs on the first day of each month. It's a varying collection of fun offers that often give you the ability to earn bonus points, get exclusive transfer bonuses to valuable airline and hotel partners, receive big discounts on cruises, and more.

For the first day of 2024, Bilt is bringing back several of the most popular Rent Day promotions of the past year, including:

  • Between 75% to 150% bonus points when transferring points to Flying Blue, Virgin Points, and IHG One Rewards
  • $5 free Lyft credit (requires account linking and activation)
  • 50% points redemption bonus on Amazon

Here's what you should know about maximizing these special Bilt Rent Day bonuses which are only available this month, as well as the standard Rent Day activities:

Insider’s Take

The Bilt Mastercard® is the first credit card to offer rewards for paying rent without the transaction fee — and you can redeem your points for travel, merchandise, and more. While it now offers bonus points on dining and select travel, if you're not a renter, you should consider other no-annual-fee rewards credit cards as well.

Point transfer bonuses to Flying Blue, Virgin Points and IHG One Rewards

If you're eager to take advantage of some great award redemptions to Europe and beyond, keep an eye out for this month's main Bilt Rent Day promotion. On January 1, Bilt Mastercard® cardholders can transfer Bilt points to three separate loyalty programs and earn a transfer bonus of 75% to 150% more points:

  • Flying Blue, the joint airline loyalty program for Air France and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
  • Virgin Red, the loyalty program for Virgin brands including Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Virgin Hotels, and the Virgin Voyages cruise line
  • IHG One Rewards, the hotel loyalty program for IHG Hotel Group which includes Intercontinental, Kimpton, Regent, and Iberostar brands

Your earnings are based on your Bilt Rewards status, which comes in four tiers: Blue, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Here's how much you'd earn per 1,000 points transferred from Bilt to these travel partners:

Bilt Status/Bonus PercentagePoints Transferred from BiltPoint Total After Bonus
Blue (75%)2,000 (minimum for Blue)3,500
Silver (100%)1,0002,000
Gold (125%)1,0002,250
Platinum (150%)1,0002,500

Note that Blue members must transfer a minimum of 2,000 points per transaction.

Get $5 in free Lyft credit

Bilt Mastercard® cardholders can also get a $5 ride credit with Lyft on the first day of the new year by linking their Lyft and Bilt accounts, then selecting "Activate credits" in the Bilt app on the Rent Day tab on January 1. Once that's done, you'll see your Lyft ride credit under "Lyft Pass" in the Payment section of the Lyft app within 72 hours of activation, and the Lyft ride credit will be valid for 90 days.

50% redemption bonus on Amazon

Personal Finance Insider rarely recommends using your hard-earned points on redemptions at retailers such as Amazon. But if you're a Bilt Mastercard® cardholder and that's your jam, you can make the most of a 50% redemption bonus on January 1. Link your Bilt Mastercard® to your Amazon account, then select your Bilt Card as your payment method at checkout. The Bilt points you'll see available for redemption at checkout will automatically reflect the 50% bonus.

Monthly Bilt promotions

While Bilt unveils unique offerings each month, there are a couple of promotions that (almost) always appear:

Complimentary SoulCycle Ride

In September 2023, Bilt began offering complimentary rides to the first 10 members per class who book directly in the Bilt App in 56 classes throughout the country. Those who don't sign up in time to grab one of the 10 spots can still book a ride through the fitness tab in the Bilt app using either points or regular payment. This month, Soulcycle appointments for Rent Day open up on December 29, 2023, at 12 pm Eastern time.

When you book a Rent Day Ride, you'll automatically be entered to win rent for a month (up to $2,500). One rider per Rent Day Ride will win, so there's a higher chance of scoring free rent if you choose to exercise with Bilt on the first of each month.

Point Quest

Bilt conducts a virtual trivia game called Bilt Point Quest, which can be found in the Bilt Rewards app and played each Rent Day. You can answer five questions for a chance to win a total of 150 points. If you answer all five questions correctly, you get the chance to answer a sixth question worth an additional 100 points, for a grand total of 250 free points.

Play the Rent Free game for a chance to get your January rent paid

Bilt also has a Family Feud-style game called Rent Free. You'll submit guesses to questions Bilt asked to its members, trying to pinpoint the most popular answers.

If you correctly guess three of the most popular answers, you'll be entered for a chance to get your rent paid for the month. Bilt will have special guests on the game show, and the more successfully they answer that month's questions, the more people will get their rent paid (up to 10 each month).

This month, you can tune in via the Bilt app as early as December 27, 2023, at 9 a.m. Eastern time.

Earn double Bilt points on non-rent purchases

On the first day of each month, the Bilt Mastercard® earns twice its normal rate for non-rent purchases. Here's what you'll earn:

  • 6 points per dollar on dining (regularly 3 points per dollar) — and up to 11 points per dollar when using the Bilt Dining feature
  • 4 points per dollar on travel (regularly 2 points per dollar)
  • 2 points per dollar on all other purchases (regularly 1 point per dollar)

Once you earn a total of 10,000 points across all spending categories during Rent Day (not counting the bonus 5x you'll earn via Bilt Dining), your card will revert back to the normal earning rates.

To be clear, your rent payment will not earn Rent will continue to earn 1 point per dollar with the Bilt Mastercard®.

When using Bilt Dining, you'll earn 5 bonus points per dollar at select restaurants. This stacks with the 3 points per dollar you'll normally earn when using the Bilt Mastercard® for dining. During Rent Day, this 5x bonus will not be bonused.

One important note: You must use your Bilt Mastercard® at least five times each statement period to be eligible to earn points.
