Six others injured, one critically, in electrical mishap
Jim Engh, a crew member working in pre-production on Fox drama “The X-Files,” was killed Monday after a scaffolding he was on became electrified with a 4,800 volt charge.
Five other people working on the scaffolding and one on the ground were injured during the accident, Los Angeles Fire Dept. spokesman Jim Wells said. The scaffolding apparently came in contact with a high-tension power line.
The California Occupational Safety & Health Admin. will conduct an investigation, Wells added.
Engh was pronounced dead at Century City Hospital after being transported from the set near the intersection of Olympic and Beverly Glen in Century City while in full cardiac arrest, Wells said.
The Fire Dept. received a call for help at about 12:35 p.m.
Five of the injured people have been treated and released from area hospitals, and one remains in critical condition at UCLA Medical Center.

In response to the accident, sister companies Twentieth Century Fox TV, which produces “The X-Files,” and Fox Broadcasting Co., which broadcasts the show, made a joint statement, saying they are conducting an intensive investigation into the accident and that families of the crew members have been notified of the accident.
“Our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies go out to Jim’s family, friends and colleagues, and we wish the injured crew members a full and rapid recovery,” the statement said.
Chris Carter, “X-Files” exec producer, added: “All of us are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our friend and colleague Jim Engh. “Our hearts go out to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who have known him and worked with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the other crew members who were injured. We wish them a speedy recovery,” Carter continued.
